The Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association concluded the activities of the 2023 Luxury Classic Cars contest & Exhibition, organised in partnership with United Development Company (UDC), at its flagship development, The Pearl Island. The latest edition witnessed the participation of a host of owners of luxury classic cars that represent an important era in the modern history of Qatar.
The closing ceremony of the exhibition was attended by the Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, vice chairman Omar Alfardan, board member Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser bin Khalid al-Thani, secretary general Abdul al-Latif al-Yafei, UDC president, CEO and board member Ibrahim Jassim al-Othman, and a host of other dignitaries and guests.
HE Sheikh Faisal lauded 'the great competition amongst classic car owners to win the prizes of the competition that was organised on the sidelines of the exhibition, in the presence of arbitrators from the World Classic Car Federation and in accordance with the standards set by the Federation to elevate the competition to the standards of international and global competitions that specialise in this type of cars.'
Omar Alfardan praised the great turnout the exhibition has witnessed since its inception and stated: “The Association has succeeded in turning the Classic Cars Exhibition into a unique tourist destination, and to organise its activities in a manner that mirrors its value as a community heritage passed down by generations with the necessary skills to uphold and preserve it.”
He stressed the importance of the exhibition as a forum for classic car owners, through which the association aims to provide and immerse them in various educational, artistic and cultural experiences. The association also seeks to provide them with social, cultural and artistic services that ensure the preservation of these cars.
The association exhibited its development this year by organising the competition for the fourth year in a row and with the support of the International Classic Car Federation (FIVA) and we will work to continue our cooperation to further develop the competition and exhibition in the coming years, he added.
This exhibition has become an integral part of the country’s annual events calendar, and it has successfully attracted classic cars fans worldwide. It has also contributed to the promotion of Qatar tourism by creating annual forums and attractions that ultimately become destinations that attract connoisseurs, tourists and visitors from the local community. Next year, the association seeks to develop the exhibition to include a wide participation of classic car collectors from the GCC countries and the Middle East.
This year's edition attracted classic car enthusiasts and tourists from inside and outside Qatar over five days. A total of 38 distinctive classic cars made between 1932 to 1993, were showcased in the exhibition and the accompanying competition, and competed for the first places in the respective categories.
The Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association extended its gratitude to Qatar Museums chairperson HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, for her honorary sponsorship of the Qatar Classic Car Exhibition and Competition 2023.
Al-Othman praised the Gulf Qatari Classic Car Association’s decision to choose The Pearl Island to host the event, which brings together classic car enthusiasts and highlights the history of this tradition in Qatar.
He noted the resounding success achieved by the exhibition thanks to the The Pearl Island’s distinguished location, which is regarded as one of the most favoured tourist destinations in Qatar, pointing out that UDC constantly seeks to support the public’s interests by hosting various important events.
